The Estate Agents Council of Zimbabwe (EACZ) yesterday threatened to report estate agents operating without licences to the police to have them arrested and shut down.

REPORT BY SILAS NKALA

Last Friday, EACZ published names of the estate agents companies, which were either operating without licences or had not renewed their licences, but continued to operate.

The council warned prospective clients that they would be dealing with the errant agents at their own risk.

Companies published were mostly from Harare, while only one was operating in the Midlands.

They include Midlands Real Estate, Ubuntu Properties, Ten Yards Real Estate, Baobab Estate Agents, Nispen Properties, Favoured Africa Properties, Exquisite Reality, Amazing Houses, Tshukudu Properties, and Highserv.

“This is to advise members of the public that the companies are not registered or have not renewed their 2013 licences,” the notice read. “Members of the public dealing with such firms will do so at their own risk.”

EACZ registrar Bennias Gweme said the companies had not reacted to the notice and the council will have to take strict measures to deal with them.

“Those companies have not reacted to our notice,” he said. “We will soon report those that are seen continuing to operate unregistered to the police, so that they are arrested and have their doors shut until they follow the requirements.”
