MASVINGO — A pro-Zanu PF students’ body, the Zimbabwe Congress of Students Union (Zicosu), says Indigenisation minister Saviour Kasukuwere erred by dishing out youth funds to individuals who have abused the money instead of channelling it to resuscitate ailing industries for the benefit of many.
Report by Tatenda Chitagu
Richard Chikomo, Zicosu provincial chair, said Kasukuwere should instead have rescued industries in different towns so that many youths would benefit by getting employment.
“While we acknowledge the youth funds (run by Kasukuwere), we feel that money should have been channelled to industries,” he said.
“Youth funds should have been chanelled towards the ailing industries so that we could get jobs, not loans.
“What if I use that money to marry and then fail to repay it? Then it means others will not benefit since it is a revolving fund.”
Chikomo was speaking at a recent public meeting at the Masvingo Civic Centre Hall organised by Organising for Zimbabwe, a local non-governmental organisation which is a capacity development forum for tackling youth and community issues in Zimbabwe.
He, however, denied that the youth funds were being politicised to benefit Zanu PF youths only.

“People took the youth funds in a negative way, maybe because it was implemented by Zanu PF,” Chikomo said.
“It’s for the youths to get something regardless of their political affiliation. Don’t look at who brought it, but at who will benefit.”
Kasukuwere could not be reached to comment yesterday.
