George Nare, a retired army colonel, yesterday could neither deny nor confirm the developments to Southern Eye, saying he was not sure if party protocol allowed him to discuss the matter with the newspaper.

“I am sorry, I cannot discuss that with you,” Nare who last week made passionate pleas for Zimbabweans to rally behind his daughter in Big Brother Africa said.

However, Zanu PF Matabeleland South provincial chairperson Andrew Langa confirmed that Nare had applied to stand for primaries in Umzingwane constituency.

“I can confirm that Nare has applied to contest in the primaries for the Umzingwane constituency. There are many new faces vying for posts in the province including retired army personnel,” he said.

Langa said he could not discuss the issue further, saying he needed to first make a presentation before the national elections directorate (NED), headed by the party national chairman Simon Khaya Moyo yesterday.

“I will be able to release all names of contesting candidates after making my presentations to the NED,” he said. Other new faces in Matabeleland South include Spare Sithole who is eyeing the Insiza South seat.

In Bulawayo province, new names like Zanu PF central committe member Khumbulani Mlilo will be vying for the Nketa seat, while the party’s city central district vice-chairman Mlungisi Moyo will contest for the Bulawayo Central seat.

“I am looking at winning the seat for Zanu PF, a revolutionary party that brought independence and whose policies enforce development to benefit especially the youth whose bracket I fall in,” Mlilo said, confirming he had handed his application.

“I am a child of Zanu PF who grew in the party with respect. “As a young person, I have respect for the elders yet I appreciate the aspirations of the young and urge those in foreign lands to come home and support the cause for the youth as well as our elders,” Mlilo said.

Moyo, who was a popular foreign exchange dealer, said he was happy that the laws had been relaxed in the party to allow young people to contest.

“I represent new ideology in the party, I am holder of a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics and just about to finish my Masters’ degree in Operations Research,” Moyo, a committee member for Premier Soccer League outfit Chicken Inn said.
