A FORMER sales representative of a telecommunications firm has been brought before the courts for allegedly stealing over $3 000 which he had collected from the company’s clients.

Fortune Mlalazi (31) of Bowood, Robert Mugabe Way and 3rd Avenue in Bulawayo, formerly employed by Telecontract (Pvt) Limited, was not asked to plead to theft charges when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Gladmore Mushove.

Mushove granted him R2 000 or $200 bail. But the State was opposing his bail.

The court heard that Mlalazi is a former employee at the company and Thapson Sibanda who is representing the company in the case, the managing director.

Mlalazi was a sales representative during his time as an employee and was tasked with collecting cash from all company’s clients.

It is the State case that on a date not mentioned, he collected $3 173 cash which he allegedly converted to his own use.

The theft was discovered during an internal audit, leading to his arrest.
