PREMIERSHIP club How Mine coach Philani Mabhena says he will beef up his squad as they prepare for an onslaught in the second half of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after a bad finish to the first half.

The new comers finished the opening half winless in four matches and on Saturday, they will play host to Dynamos who hammered them 3-0 last weekend in Harare.

“We need one senior goalkeeper, a senior central defender, an attacking midfielder and one striker, but I am not going to give you any names. Basically we are looking for four players and we have slots for three in the Under-19s which we are going to use. We have not spoken to the executive, but as the technical team, we have discussed that we need to strengthen some departments,” Mabhena said.

Speculation is rife that former Masvingo United and Highlanders striker Simbarashe Gate could be returning to Shabanie Mine, a team that he trained with after leaving Zimbabwe Saints mid-2011 before leaving for Mozambique where he played last year for top-flight side Ferroviario.

While How Mine has made their intentions clear, low key activity has characterised the opening two days of the transfer window.

Teams have indicated that they would have wanted to bolster their clubs here and there, but looking at the financial situation of most teams, it appears they have to dig into the juniors instead during the window period.

After losing 3-1 to FC Platinum in a penalty shoot-out to bow out of the BancABC Sup8r Cup, Highlanders mentor Kelvin Kaindu said he would only be able to talk about acquiring new players when the window opens.

“We will talk about the transfer window when we get to it,” he said at Mucheke Stadium after falling to Platinum.

However, there have been indications that Bosso could be heading to Division One for players, especially strikers. The Bosso strategy is likely to be unveiled at the mid-year extraordinary general meeting to be held on Sunday.

Platinum new coach Lloyd Mutasa had this to say: “It is still early days and I still have work to do on my strikers.”

Tripple B coach Peter Manoti was last week seen in Bulawayo where he spoke to Zimbabwe Saints defender Nkosilathi “Rambo” Dube and said he would be going back to his bosses to table some plans.

Hwange head coach Nation Dube said they were still trying to engage the club’s executive, but he was not willing to change the team that he has been building from the start of the season.

“We are still trying to engage in meetings and if the executive has anything to give us, I will look for a player for each department.

That means three players, but I don’t want to change the team wholesomely because I will destabilise a team that has already settled in well,” Dube said.
