AN OUT-GOING Bulawayo councillor has refuted claims by Baba Jukwa, a faceless Facebook character, that his son and two MDC-T activists had been abducted and detained by police officers.

Baba Jukwa recently claimed that the police officer (name provided) sought to curry favour with his seniors by kidnapping the three, one of them the son of Collet Ndlovu, an MDC-T councillor for Cowdray Park.

However, Ndlovu said his son had been briefly detained by the police and released, refuting claims he had been abducted. “They are members of the National Youth Development Trust and they were monitoring the voter registration process encouraging young people to go and register to vote,” he said, adding that this happened about two months ago.

Ndlovu said his son, Masiza, and his colleagues were never kidnapped as Baba Jukwa alleged. He said the police found the three at Mahlathini Primary School in Cowdray Park while teaching people about voter registration and took them to Luveve Police Station for questioning.

“They were taken to Luveve Police Station, where they were asked why they were teaching people how to register,” he said. “They never stayed there for long. They were briefly detained and released without a charge.”

Baba Jukwa accused the police officer of “unleashing terror” in the western suburbs of Bulawayo.
