Munyaradzi Kereke who was fired by Zanu PF for defying the party to stand in Bikita West also beat the party’s official candidate Elias Musakwa.

Kereke garnered 6 270 votes against his former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe workmate Musakwa’s 6 052.

MDC-T had only managed to retain two seats in Bulawayo – namely Mpopoma and Nkulumane.

Flamboyant businessman Phillip Chiyangwa failed in his bid to land a parliamentary seat in Chinhoyi falling to MDC-T’s Peter Mataruse. Information minister Webster Shamu retained the Chegutu East seat.

Meanwhile, Britain yesterday said it was concerned that Zimbabwe had not enacted important electoral reforms before Wednesday’s vote in the former British colony and by reports that large numbers of voters had been turned away.

“We are also concerned by the late publication of the electoral roll,” a spokesman for the British Foreign Office told Reuters. “Any judgment on the credibility of elections will need to take these factors into account.” – Additional reporting by Reuters.
