Moyo who dominated the first and second rounds, but fizzled out on the third round, was pronounced winner in the fight much to the disappointment of some of the Mashonaland Central athletes and officials as they thought their boxer had won the bout. Mudando could not hold back her tears when the results were announced.

It took the intervention of police to quell the Mashonaland Central athletes and officials who were still protesting the judge’s decision. One of the officials also disputed the result, saying he would take back his boxers to Harare if that result stood.

Princess Taderera from Mashonaland East beat Kundai Nzembe from Mashonaland West in a split-points decision in a women’s category bout. Bulawayo Province boxer Prosper Shumba qualified for today’s final after beating Sikhanyiso Maphosa from Manicaland. Maphosa was counted out on the second round of the bout.

In another women’s category semi-final bout, Tellwin Nyeredzi from Masvingo beat Belinda Nkomo from Matabeleland South. The winners of yesterday’s semi-finals return to action in the finals today.
