The provincial finals will be held at MaNkomo Beergarden in Gwanda on Saturday. There had initially been pencilled for last month, but were postponed due to election campaigns ahead of the July 31 harmonised polls.

Matabeleland South provincial arts manager Nokuthula Moyo said 10 rhumba msebe groups will contest in the competition to select the group that will represent the province in the national finals to be held in Harare later this year.

“Fireworks are expected from these groups and members of the public should come and witness the talents on offer. Other upcoming artistes should also come to get a feel of the competition in order for them to prepare themselves for future competitions,” Moyo said.

The competition, sponsored by Delta Beverages, is one of the country’s largest talent identification events where up-and-coming artistes will get the chance to market their products and stand a chance of winning a recording contract.

Moyo said ten bands drawn from six districts have confirmed participation in this year’s competition. The groups are Insiza Express, Motor Supersounds, Vumbachikwe Sounds, Reasons Super Challengers, Izothamlilo band, Rich and Famous Crew, Colen Bawn Vibes, Zonda Mthakathi band, Revolution Sounds and Macray Super Sounds.

Last years’ provincial winners, Kalanga group Tanga Pasi of Plumtree, will be guest performers at the event.
