This was heard by Gokwe magistrate Collen Chiruma when Talent Bango (23) appeared before him facing a murder charge on Saturday.

She was not asked to plead and the magistrate remanded her in custody to September 13.

Prosecutor Michael Mhene told the court that on August 24, Bango was at Rushwaya village under chief Njelele in Gokwe.

She took her four-year-old and 20-month-old children to her garden. On arrival, she threw the younger child into the well with water and left the child to drown.

She then returned with the older child home. The baby was discovered by other community members who made a report to the police, leading to her arrest.

The motive of the woman’s actions has not yet been established as she is yet to make a plea.
