Orlando Pirates striker Mbesuma has failed to recover from an ankle injury he sustained three weeks ago in the MTN8 quarter-finals.

“Mbesuma has a problem with his right ankle,” Kabungo, the Zambia team doctor, said. “I think it will be good that he continues with his rehabilitation and he will be back to playing sooner rather than later.”

Mbesuma joined the team at their Johannesburg camp on Sunday after attending his late father’s burial just 24 hours earlier in Lusaka, Zambia.

Meanwhile Mulenga, of FC Utrecht in the Netherlands, did not travel to Johannesburg, but sent in a sick note from the club.

“Mulenga has a thigh muscle injury,” the doctor said.

“The doctors at the club sent me some scans that they did in the Netherlands.” However, good news is new Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Mukuka Mulenga had been declared fit for yesterday’s trip to Ghana following his recovery from an ankle ligament problem. Mukuka sustained the injury on August 3 in a 2014 Chan qualifier against Botswana that saw him sidelined for three weeks.
