Thandiwe Dube of Belvedere, Harare, was not asked to plead when she appeared on fraud charges before Bulawayo magistrate Merlyen Mutshina on Wednesday. She was remanded to November 11 for trial.

The court heard that on December 16 last year, Dube booked into a city lodge after allegedly misrepresenting herself as a Justice ministry official.

She stayed at the lodge for seven days after promising that her “employers” would settle the bill by depositing the required amount directly into the lodge’s account.

The complainant Ernest Dubiwa of Burnside, an employee at the lodge, kept sending a relative based in Harare to ask for the payment from Dube and she kept making endless promises.

Dubiwa then reported the matter to the police, leading to her arrest.
