Three schools from the Southern region, Mpopoma from Bulawayo, Matabeleland North’s Hlangabeza and Collen Bawn of Matabeleland South were confident that they would do well in the Under-20 boys’ tournament.

Pamushana of Masvingo are the defending champions.

Mpopoma coach Babson Ngwenya said: “This year we are organised compared to last year where we bowed out of the tournament at the group stages. The boys are playing well. We hope that one of our key players, captain Brighton Manhire, called up for the Under-20 Young Warriors last week for a trip to Angola, will be with us,” Ngwenya said.

Mpopoma won the provincial tournament after beating Milton without Manhire who had been called up for the postponed four nations invitational tournament in Angola. Colleen Bawn, who will be gracing the tournament for the first time, also promised fireworks.

Nqobizitha Nyoni, the Colleen Bawn coach, said they were prepared and would go into the tournament with aggression.

“This is our first time in the national tournament, but our target is to win it,” Nyoni said.
