Second-half substitute Clive Kawinga stabbed home the all-important goal in the 81st minunte to break the opposition’s hearts.

Oscar Machapa, playing as a right winger in yesterday’s match was brilliant and was rightfully voted the man-of-the-match. He was rewarded for his outstanding performance with a shield and $500.

Dynamos coach Kalisto Pasuwa was frank in his post-match analysis that this was not the prettiest of performances by his team.

“We started slowly, but we managed to contain them and then scored in the dying minutes. The team did not play very well, but what is important when playing in a cup match is to progress to the next round.

“We did just that today and I’m happy,” Pasuwa said. Tripple B coach Peter Manoti said his side worked extra hard, but then got tired as the game progressed and subsequently conceded the goal.

“It was just a question of depth between the two teams and that was the difference. Dynamos clearly showed they have depth and they won the match, but I must also give it to my boys. They did extremely well and even though we lost the match, I think they played very well.”

A moment of silence was observed before the start of the match in honour of Timire Mamvura’s mother who passed on last week. The opening minutes of the match were played under some surprise drizzle.

Dynamos, though were clearly on top and nearly made most of their domination when Russell Madamombe released a shot from range three minutes into the match, which went just over.

Tripple B got two successive free-kicks in promising positions moments later, but both were wasted. The first effort went horribly over, but the second one, a dipping effort by Webster Chingodza nearly beat George Chigova who somehow managed to scoop it to safety.

Machapa failed to connect a square pass from Washington Pakamisa and the former Caps United big man constantly terrorised the defence with his dribbling skills, had his shot from inside the box smartly saved.

As the half time drew close, Boban Bogere saw his close range header clip the top of the bar for Dynamos. Both teams made no changes at halftime and it was Dynamos who quickly resumed their relentless probing of the Tripple B defence and almost found the opener on 47th minute.

Tripple B keeper Gilbert Chigwandaza made a smart save to deny Bogere. The Harare giants were almost gifted a goal when Chigwandaza failed to control a back pass, but luckily for him, the ball rolled out.

On the 64th minute, Pakamisa was put through by Machapa and took a shot which deflected off the keeper and went wide.

But it was Tripple B who looked more lively although they never really threatened Chigova. Pasuwa made a double substitution on 74th minute as he sought to add fresh legs and some bite upfront.

Kawinga came in for Pakamisa while the tiring Madamombe made way for Patrick Khumbula who was making a comeback from an injury which he ironically picked at this stadium some three months ago. The gamble paid off when Machapa exchanged passes with Kawinga inside the box. He steered the ball beyond the diving keeper.
