The jazz maestro is accused of having driven a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence which could have been one of the causes of the accident. Manhenga appeared on summons before magistrate Blessing Murwisi and was remanded to Thursday for trial.

Allegations against Manhenga are that on March 15 2010, she drove a Toyota Spacio along Sherwood Drive, Harare, and at that time, she was only a holder of a provisional driver’s licence.

The State alleges, on the day in question, the victim Graham Martin, was riding on a motor cycle along the same road when Manhenga rammed into him.

According to the State case, the accident occurred when Manhenga turned right into a residential stand in Mabelreign, hitting Martin in the process. The cyclist sustained serious injuries and was ferried to West End Hospital where he died on admission. The State claims Manhenga contributed to the fatal accident by being negligent.
