BBA secretary-general Sikhumbuzo Ndlovu said Giants sent a request for cancellation of the match that had been scheduled for Saturday.

“There was a request at the last minute by Giants to cancel the match against Hawks, I was informed there are logistical problems within the Giants camp.

“The request seemed genuine even the other part, (Hawks) accepted the request,” he said.

Ndlovu said the association will have a meeting with Giants today to hear their problems.

“We are expecting to have a meeting with Giants tomorrow (today) so that we hear the gravity of their situation. We will map the way forward,” he said.

Another notable blow in the Giants camp is the state of their point guard Geraldine Chibonda who sustained a serious injury when Zimbabwe was playing Ivory Coast in the Afro-basket games that were staged in Mozambique last month.

Chibonda was knocked at the lower abdomen resulting in her ileum being torn.

Meanwhile, Highlanders beat Oilers 55-16 in the only match of the day in the women’s league.

In the men’s category Mavericks edged Lords 87-53, nursing their 39-52 defeat in the hands of Giants in the previous week, Unicorns made a superb performance drubbing Stars 75-56 in the opening match at Northlea before dismissing Giants 57-35.

KAOS ran amok handing Milton a heavy 91-57 defeat while Highlanders stunned ALCC 57-40 in the main match of the day to maintain their unbeaten record.
