Parshotam, Dlamini rule the roost

Himashu Parshotam and Eunice Dlamini were crowned businessman and businesswoman of the year respectively at the 2013 Megafest Business Awards ceremony

BONSA Spar managing director Himashu Parshotam and Eunice Dlamini, of M&M Joyous Events were on Friday crowned businessman and businesswoman of the year respectively at the 2013 Megafest Business Awards ceremony held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Parshotam attributed his success to team work.

“I am very happy that I won this award, but I didn’t do it alone. This is in recognition of my staff, management and customers. We did this as Team Spar,” he said.

“The people of Bulawayo need employment. Hence there is need to resuscitate industries.”

Parshotam said the company employed more than 120 people and is expected to increase the number in the near future.

On her part, Dlamini said she did not expect to win the award and encouraged fellow women to also strive to make a mark in the corporate world.

“I am actually shocked to be crowned the businesswoman of the year. I would also want to encourage ladies that women can drive the economy,” she said.

“The people of Bulawayo should use what they have to resuscitate industries. If we put hands together, Bulawayo will never remain the same.”

Dlamini won the female entrepreneur award last year.

Raj Modi, the managing director of Sai Enterprises won the philanthropist of the year award.

Modi was also recognised as Bulawayo’s outstanding business personality of the year together with other 14 business leaders.

Speaking at the function, Megafest chief executive officer Tafadzwa Matsika said this year’s theme was “Restoring the glory of the industrial hub.”

He said the intention was to revive Bulawayo’s industries, which are crumbling.

Other award winners were Busisa Moyo of United Refineries Limited (chief executive officer of the year), Arthur Evans of Technoexpert Construction (greatest business minds), Abisha Gweshe of CBZ (manager of the year), Cynthia Marisamhuka of FBC (female manager), Walter Zimunya of Macdonald Bricks (young manager), Cliff Mafemba (management team builder), Zaydah Randen of Tregers/Kango (secretary), Rudi Gouma of The Musketeers Lodge (entrepreneur), Thandi Chisiri of Catering Solutions (female entrepreneur), Cephas Murambiwa of Early Ashes (young entrepreneur), Betty Maganda of Techno Basket (young female entrepreneur) and Peter Buckle (lifetime achievement).

Other winners were Holiday Inn (hotel), Impala Bontique Hotel (lodge), Bon Journee (restaurant/café), Standard Chartered Bank (service champion), Telecel Red (best marketed product), Ecocash (brand of the year), Zimbabwe School of Mines (educational partnership award), Delta Baverages (training and development), Bonsa Spar, Parklands (retail award), Transerve (most dynamic organisation), Tile&Carpet (most creative organisation), First Computers (most innovative), Servcor (most consistent organisation), Lupane State University (most promising organisation), Firetech (most improved organisation), Safeguard (security initiation award) SNV Netherlands (rural development award), Edgars (corporate social responsibility), Population Service International (best HIV and Aids awareness), Dulys (people’s choice award) and Zinara (parastatal of the year) The award of excellence was given to Car Guard, Autoworld, Telecel Zimbabwe, Nyaradzo Funeral Services and ZITF.
