CAPS assistant coach Saul Chaminuka has described their clash against How Mine in the semi-finals of the Mbada Diamonds Cup at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday as a final before the final.

Tawanda Tafirenyika Sports Correspondent Chaminuka admitted their chances of winning the league title this season were now very slim and were now targeting to lift the Mbada Diamonds Cup — the richest knockout tournament in the country.

There are rich pickings for all the teams taking part in the Mbada Diamonds Cup with winners set to pocket a cool $130 000.

How Mine have already made a bold statement of intent having kicked Dynamos out.

They also shocked the Harare giants 1-0 in one of their league meetings this season.

The Bulawayo club which has perfected the art of rising to the occasion against the so-called big teams, also managed back-to-back victories over league title aspirants Highlanders.

But they failed to do it against Caps United in their two league encounters with Makepekepe coming out without any bruises in those contests.

However, Chaminuka said they needed to be cautious because a lot of records had been broken this season.

“It’s a final before the final,” Chaminuka said.

“Our chances of winning the league title are very slim, as you can see, so we need to win this cup. It’s a crucial tie for us because our focus is to reach the final. We need to win this match. Of course we have got a psychological advantage having won against How Mine in all our league encounters, but a lot of records have been broken this season, so we need to be careful. They boys are aware of this.”

Chaminuka said they were preparing well for the match on Sunday with the Caps United assistant reporting a clean bill of health in his camp so far.

The Green Machine are still in the running for a rare league and cup double as they sit in fifth place with 45 points and have a mathematical chance of winning the Castle Premier Soccer League title if the top four falter.
