A COMMUTER omnibus driver who kidnapped and assaulted a female cop last month leaving her unconscious in a pool of blood was on Friday jailed for an effective three years.
SENIOR COURT REPORTER
Coward Timothy Kudyamusuma (26) of Nkulumane 12 suburb pleaded not guilty to kidnapping, assault and resisting arrest, but was convicted by Bulawayo magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo at the Western Commonage Magistrates’ Courts.
He was sentenced to four years in prison. One year was conditionally suspended for five years.
Prosecutor Tatenda Dakwa told the court that on October 12, the female cop, constable Dorothy Shoko, was on patrol in the company of other traffic police.
They saw Kudyamusuma loading passengers from an undesignated point in Nketa 6 and Shoko jumped into the kombi and advised Kudyamusuma that he was under arrest and ordered him to drive to Tshabalala Police Station.
However, instead of driving to the police station, Kudyamusuma drove to Rangemore business centre where he demanded her police identity card (ID).
He grabbed the ID card and snatched the cop’s cellphone and switched it off after she tried to call her colleagues for help.
