Heads must roll at Bosso

WE FEEL sorry for the Highlanders Football Club faithfuls. They are known to be very passionate and supportive of their team.

But it was disheartening and painful to see some of them shed tears after Bosso was walloped 4-0 by Harare City Football Club on a woeful afternoon at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

Bosso supporters are bitter and want answers for the lackadaisical performance of the team which a few weeks ago was eyeing a cup double.

Life members found drowning the painful loss at the team’s club house on Sunday night bemoaned the club executive’s decision to allow club coach Kelvin Kaindu to leave for a course in the United Kingdom at this crucial stage of the league.

“We are at a crucial stage. That person is not a permanent coach at Highlanders and they should not have allowed him to leave at this stage. He could have postponed travelling to the UK. The executive must be answerable to this fiasco,” a Bosso member said.

Another member said the players at the Bulawayo giants were not championship winning material.

“I am very hurt. These players don’t have that commitment. It is useless that a team that wants to win the championship have players that are old. Most of these players were not bought.

We need to visit the junior policy,” the member said.

The generality of the club’s supporters who fork out their hard-earned cash to watch Bosso play feel short-changed. They have every reason to be angry.

It is undeniable that Bosso have blown away a marvellous opportunity to land the 2013 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title. The three points thrown away by Bosso with one game to go may well prove particularly costly taking into account the team’s unconvincing home performances this season.

Highlanders play Shabanie Mine in the last game of the season at Barbourfields next weekend and have to win convincingly while hoping that Harare City and Dynamos lose their matches. But judging from their performance in the last two games, the truth should be told that Bosso have mediocre players that cannot help the former champions land the title.

It would be folly for the Bosso supporters to naïvely believe the race is still wide open. It is not.

The title is now out of their hands unless a major miracle happens. The calibre of players at the Club leave a lot to be desired. We saw it against Triangle Football Club during the mid-week league match that the present crop of players donning the black and white stripes are unconvincing.

The Bosso executive cannot escape the blame for the poor performance. The Kaindu debacle could prove their Waterloo. Kaindu first left ahead of the match against Motor Action, which they drew 1-1 with Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu in charge.

However, Ndlovu’s deficiencies were exposed at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday when it mattered most in a game Bosso could not afford to lose. Heads must surely roll.
