Eleven footballers who have excelled this year will be selected in Harare on Saturday.

Southern Eye Sport took to the streets to find out players whom fans think have impressed this season. Lewis Mpofu from Old Lobengula said Diya and Highlanders striker Njabulo Ncube deserve to be selected.

“Njabulo has played very well for Highlanders. Diya has also had a good season. He is a good goalkeeper. These two deserve to be selected,” he said.

A Highlanders fan from Pumula South, Lovemore Bhebhe, was one of the supporters who said Songani deserved nomination.

“Chicken Inn striker Tendai Ndoro has been in sparkling form playing some good football. Kudakwashe Mahachi should be there also. He is one player who plays entertaining football. Tawanda Muparati and Simba Sithole have also done well. Silas Songani from Harare City also played very well,” he said.

A Dynamos fan Hardlife Moses Masekese from Gwabalanda said Diya deserves a slot in this year’s calendar.

“Diya is a very good goalkeeper. Ever since he took over from Ariel Sibanda he has been in good form throughout the season,” he said.

Songani and Muparati were also touted as having been the country’s best by Charles Muwomba from Makokoba.

“Muparati has been outstanding in the Dynamos midfield. Songani has also been very good and he scores very beautiful free-kicks. Despite losing to Highlanders in the Mbada semi-final at Mandava Stadium, he had a very good game,” the Dynamos supporter said.

Bongani Sibanda from Cowdray Park said Stephen Sibanda from Buffaloes had been exceptional.

“Stephen Sibanda from Buffaloes played very well. He stands a chance,” he said.

Sindiso Khumalo said three players from Highlanders stood a chance.

“Highlanders defender Innocent Mapuranga, Peter “Rio” Moyo and Ozias Zibande have had a good season. Zibande scored when Highlanders beat Triangle 1-0 last week,” he said.

Buhlebezwe Ndlovu said Muparati and Songani deserve selection.

“I am a staunch Highlanders supporter, but I think Tawanda Muparati has done very well this season. He had pace. My second choice is Songani from Harare City. He has been outstanding for his side throughout the season. Credit should also go to his coach Bigboy Mawiwi because tactically he has been good and that influences how players perform,” he said.
