Padare/Men Forum on Gender programmes officer Nakai Nengomasha said churches should take a leading role in scaling up youth sexual and reproductive health programmes so that they can plan their lives.

“There is need for churches to prioritise sex education as an entry point to address sexual reproductive health. If they could access such information, they could protect their sexual and reproductive health and plan their lives,” Nengomasha said on the sidelines of an inter-generational meeting in Chiwundura yesterday.

He added that traditional leaders should help change perceptions on sexual and reproductive health rights.

In most parts of sub-Saharan Africa, issues of reproductive health and family planning for adolescents were regarded as taboo and as a result, pregnancy and childbirth-related complications remained the leading killer of teenage girls in this part of the world.
