Gabriella Gladys Vosta (36) of Kirlland Churchill in Greenhill Bulawayo, who is employed by Bonsa Casablanca supermarket as a cashier was not asked to plead to theft charges when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Gladmore Mushove on Friday.

She was remanded in custody to December 16. The court heard that  during a period running from August 18 2011 to November 18 2013 on a daily basis, Vosta would complete a cash summary sheet after collecting money from the till operator which she took to the managers  for counting.

The management would then sign on the daily cash summary sheet as proof that the money which was written down balanced with what the accused had.

It is the State case that the signed cash summary sheet would then be taken to the accounts department by the accused. On a daily basis Vosta would then steal some money and in order to cover up for the offence she would prepare another daily summary sheet not bearing the manager’s signature indicating that the accounts were in order.

She would take the daily summary purporting that she was in possession of the money.

The offence came to light on November 18 this year when the supermarket was closing down after Vosta submitted to the manager only $3 and R185.

The supermarket management then established that on the cash summary a sum of $14 515,78 and R152 285,50 could not be accounted for.

A report made to the police led to Vosta’s arrest.
