The senior national team is now ranked as the 30th best team in Africa, one place down from 29 to cap a rather terrible year for Zimbabwe.

Ivory Coast remain the best placed African side at number 17 in the world, followed by Ghana (24), Algeria (26), Nigeria (36) and Egypt (38).

The top 10 is rounded off by Cape Verde (39), Mali (42), Tunisia (49), Cameroon (51) and Burkina Faso (58).

Portugal were the big movers in the global list, gaining nine places to end the year in fifth position. Ahead of them are leaders Spain, Germany, Argentina and Colombia.

Rounding off the top 10 on the global list are Uruguay, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Brazil.
