A source close to the player revealed to Southern Eye Sport that the dreadlocked Bosso midfielder, who finished the 2013 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season in top form, is training with Wits and is one of the players eyeing a move to the Absa Premier League next year.
“Rio is at Wits. He went there last week and he has been training with the South African side,” the source said.
But his manager George Deda, who has been away in the Seychelles, said he was not aware that Moyo was in South Africa.
“I have been away in Seychelles and when I came back, I tried to contact him because I had another deal for him in South Africa, but he was not available. I heard that he is in South Africa, but I don’t know which club he is training with or who made the arrangements for him to go there. But that is not a problem if he is on trials with any club, that is good for him,” Deda said.
Rio is one of the players missing in action for the Warriors camp, which breaks for Christmas tomorrow.
Misheck Mburayi of Triangle is also believed to be in South Africa for trials, but efforts to establish the club that has accommodated him were fruitless by yesterday.
Warriors manager Shariff Mussa on Saturday told our sister publication Standard Sport that head coach Ian “Dibango” Gorowa was aware that Rio was in South Africa, but said he did not know which clubs the Bosso player and Mburayi were attached to.

“Peter Moyo is in touch with the coach and said he would join camp by Monday (today) hopefully. No news on Misheck and we do not know which clubs they are training with,” Mussa said.
Moyo reportedly also attracted the interest of an unnamed German Bundesliga side before and if he makes it at BidVest, he will join fellow Zimbabweans Onismor Bhasera, Benjani Mwaruwari, Tinashe Nengomasha and Denver Mukamba.
The upcoming Chan tournament to be hosted by South Africa is likely to open doors to many local players with Highlanders goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya and Hwange defender Erick Chipeta awaiting feedback from Absa PSL log anchors Golden Arrows.
South Africa has become home to several players notably Knowledge Musona, Mathew Rusike and Willard Katsande at Kaizer Chiefs, Khama Billiat, Cuthbert Malajila and Esrom Nyandoro at Mamelodi Sundowns and goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini and Carlington Nyadombo who are at AmaZulu. Bloemfontein Celtic is home to Rodreck Mutuma.
FC Platinum’s midfielder-cum-striker Charles Sibanda has also trained with SuperSport United who are also interested in Kudakwashe Mahachi. Mahachi was spurned by Mamelodi Sundowns since they have exhausted their foreign players quota.
