TWO men from Bamba village in Gokwe North allegedly threatened to bewitch a 13-year-old girl if she resisted their sexual advances before taking turns to rape her. SILAS NKALA STAFF REPORTER
This was heard by the Gokwe resident magistrate Shepherd Mjanja when Matthias Shumba (69) and Chigarira Phiri (60) appeared before him to answer charges of rape.
The two were not asked to plead to the charge and were remanded in custody to December 31.
The prosecutor Mandla Ndlovu told the court that sometime in July at the Bamba village, the two elderly men connived to rape a girl age 13.
They allegedly invited the girl to Phiri’s home where they locked her in, threatened to stab her with a knife if she resisted, before they took turns to rape her.
The two men allegedly also threatened to cast a spell on her if she dared told anyone about the incident.
The girl fell pregnant and the matter eventually came to light after she miscarried.
She told the parents that the two men were responsible for her pregnancy, leading to their arrest.
