THE mock mall that was opened to coincide with the official honouring of the late Vie-President Joshua Nkomo on December 22 last year, will continue its operations two days after it should have folded, with negotiations on its continued operation set to resume.

JUNIOR MOYO OWN CORRESPONDENT The Joshua Nkomo National foundation (JNNF) said the mall, operating along Jason Moyo Street and 8th Avenue between Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street and 9th Avenue, would be operational today while it tries to engage the Bulawayo City Council Local Government ministry for it to be made permanent.

JNNF chief executive officer Jabulani Hadebe yesterday said they would be consulting the relevant authorities about the foundation’s proposed permanent status of the mall.

“The pedestrian mall did not close yesterday (Saturday). It is still operating up to tomorrow (today) on which we will meet the city council on the issue of it being made permanent,” he said.

Hadebe said the public had shown an interest in the mall since the unveiling of the statue as residents and tourists had been flocking to it to buy memorabilia and products related to the life and times of Nkomo.
