Kapilika Muzamba (38) pleaded guilty when he appeared before Binga resident magistrate Stephen Ndlovu on Tuesday facing a charge of fraud and was remanded in custody to January 21 for sentence.

Prosecutor David Never Shiku told the court that on November 14 last year, Muzamba wrote the exam for a girl from the Kabuwa area. The State said after the examination, Muzamba collected all the answer sheets from candidates, including that of the girl.

He then disposed of the girl’s answer sheets in a rubbish bin and replaced them with the answer scripts he had written.

The matter only came to light when the girl’s answer sheets were recovered from the rubbish bin and investigations established that Muzamba had written the exam for the girl. A report was made to the police, leading to his arrest.

In his guilty plea, Muzamba said he wanted the girl to pass the examination after noticing that there was no pupil from the Kabuwa area that had ever passed five “O” Level subjects and wanted her to be the first.

“I wanted the girl to be the first one to pass from that area so that she could inspire others,” Muzamba said.  Twitter feedback @silasnkala
