With many events lined up this could be the opportune time for athletes to start preparing for the various upcoming local and international competitions. BAB chairman Manuel Mpofu yesterday said they will hold cross-country championships which will open the calendar this season.

“We are inviting all clubs and schools from around the city to come and take part in our first competition of the year. It is also the chance for schools to prepare for upcoming competitions. It is a very important competition because athletes who get good times will be selected to represent the province in the national cross-country championships which will be held in Kwekwe on February 15. We are also going to have another cross-country competition at Luveve High School on February 8 to finalise on our team,” he said.

Mpofu said the race will start from Nketa Drive Park in Mpopoma going through Matshobana and back to the park. The Under-16 boys and girls as well as the Under-18 and Under-20 girls will go through that route three times to complete 6km.

Under-18 boys, Under-20 boys and the senior women will run the route four times for the 8km race while the senior men will run the route six times to complete 12km.
