DUBAI — Wings Group dominated the second and final day of the first Danube Test Series at the International CC Academy in Dubai Sports City on Friday.

An unbeaten 73 from Ranjith Mani helped his side to 307 for six and a lead of 55, while Wings romped to victory in the Twenty20 (T20) match that followed.

After resuming on 118 for three chasing Danube’s 252 all out, Sajjad Ali was the first batsman out, caught behind off Riaz Afridi for 30.

Former Zimbabwe batsman Charles Coventry, famous for hitting an unbeaten 194 in a one-day international against Bangladesh, then helped Ranjith take the score past 150. At 177, Coventry went for an expansive sweep and was clean bowled by Rana Destgeer for 27.

Former West Indies player Ryan Hinds came in next and he and Ranjith took Wings’ score past the Lions’ first innings score. Ranjith scored a classy half-century while Hinds fell one short of his 50, when he was bowled by Zahoor Khan.

Ranjith also built a 50-run partnership with Istiaq Ghouri and took Wings past 300 to get maximum batting points. In the T20 match, the Lions won the toss and elected to bat first, but were bowled out for 125, with former Zimbabwe opener Sikander Raza top scoring on 54. Sajjad returned figures of three for 24.

Wings Group skipper Riffat Ullah hit an unbeaten 60 as he took his team to victory in 16,2 overs. His innings included 10 boundaries and a six.

With the T20 win, Wings added five points to their earlier total to end with 23. Danube Lions could only score five in total.
