How Mine coached by 2008 coach of the year Philani “Beefy” Ncube, will date Chuoni FC of Zanzibar in the first leg preliminary round of the Confederation Cup at Barbourfields Stadium next month before travelling to the island off the coast of Tanzania for the second leg.

Ncube yesterday told Southern Eye Sport that he was happy with the squad at his disposal.

“We managed to sign Emmanuel from Aces Academy for a season. I am happy with the squad. I think it is a good side. We also have experienced players like Hebert Dick and Gilbert Banda — there is no substitute for quality. Our aim is to get to the group stages,” he said.

However, How Mine now have to do with out new recruits Nicholas Alifandika and Courage Denias who withdrew from the squad.

The 18-year-old Mandiranga will join Simba Sithole, Qinani Sibanda and Kudakwashe Musharu in the How Mine strike force.

How Mine chairman Mlondolozi Nkomo said he was happy with his squad.

“From my assessment, we have a fairly strong team. We are going into unknown territory, but I think we will do well in our first assignment against the team from Zanzibar. We are looking forward to that match. We are sending the list to Zifa today (yesterday),” he said.

How Mine qualified to represent the country in the Caf Confederations Cup after they finished as runners-up in the Mbada Diamonds Cup, losing to Highlanders who are serving a three-year ban.

The gold miners will be hoping to string surprises despite making their debut appearance in the African Safari.
