The people’s choice award is an accolade given to an artist or arts institution selected by the public in any Nama category such as music.

The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) launched the people’s choice award voting platform on February 1 and will run until the award night on February 15. Voting is open to all Zimbabwean cellular networks with the short code 39436 and artistes with the highest number of votes will be honoured at the awards banquet on Saturday.

Although the Isono Sami hit maker has been absent in music circles for more than a decade, he is likely to get probably the last music accolade in his lifetime if the recent voting campaign for the Nama people’s choice awards launched on social networks by his followers succeeds.

“Here is an opportunity to honour the legend Lovemore Majaivana by voting him for the Nama people’s choice awards vote in your numbers. For those in Zimbabwe voting is open to all networks,” reads one of the Facebook posts. “There is no doubt that Majaivana’s work is in a league of its own in Zimbabwe.

“His prophetic lyrics standout among many that we have heard coming from our musicians.

“He deserted his career because of lack of support from us. I think it is not too late to let him know that we appreciate his music and acknowledge he was a genius in the trade and his music is the best among the best,” reads another post on the same page.

The decorated music legend who commands a country-wide following is currently based in the United States where he is reportedly pursuing personal business.

The 54-year-old musician who quit the public arena in the late 90 is lauded for inspiring several successful musicians from Matabeleland such as Jeys Marabini, Sandra Ndebele, Africa Revenge, Willis Watafi, Busi Ncube, Albert Nyathi and the late Solomon Skuza.
