Plumtree Chiefs believe they are on the right track for top-flight action after settling for a 1-1 draw with Hwange in a friendly match

PREMIER Soccer League (PSL) debutants Plumtree Chiefs believe they are on the right track for top-flight action after settling for a 1-1 draw with Hwange in a friendly match played at the Colliery on Sunday. RONALD MOYO SPORTS REPORTER

Chiefs went to Hwange a day after they returned from a seven-day physical training camp in Plumtree.

Head coach Thulani Sibanda said although the boys had spent a week working on fitness only, they managed to match Chipangano.

Sibanda said his side will continue with their physical training today at Hillside Dams.

“We were working on fitness in Plumtree. It is one of the key things in football so we have been working on it. Tomorrow (today) we are going to Hillside to continue with the rhythm of that fitness training we had in Plumtree. We played against Hwange on Sunday and I am convinced the boys are trying, we have talented young stars,” he said.

However, Sibanda said his charges lacked character. He said there is still time for his side to play more friendly matches with big teams so that his charges gain confidence and adapt to top-flight league pressure.

“They still lack confidence, but I think if we try to have friendlies with big teams, they will gain confidence and adapt to the PSL pressure. The way they performed in the first half against Hwange was a sign of lack of confidence, but in the second half they came back a rejuvenated side and matched their opponents,” he said.

Chiefs who had earlier suggested that they will play their PSL matches in their home town early last month confirmed their move to Bulawayo, making them the fourth team after Bulawayo giants Highlanders, Chicken Inn and Caf Confederation Cup representatives How Mine.

Sibanda will be making his second appearance in the PSL after taking charge of Quelaton in 2012.
