Through his lawyer Innocent Hore, Marongwe is demanding that the council pays him $215 537,15 in outstanding salary, perks and terminal benefits.

In submissions made to an arbitration tribunal in Gweru, Marongwe argued that he was illegally dismissed after three years of service. He told the tribunal that he had not received any official communication regarding his employment since a Local Government Board meeting held on May 10 2013 to discuss his issue when he was still on suspension.

“By implication the employee is still on unlawful suspension that has lasted 22 months,” wrote Hore in his submissions.

Marongwe wants council to reinstate him to his position as town secretary without loss of benefits which he listed as $115 022 being for salary, benefits and allowances all due from date of suspension.
