They kick-start their tour with Masvingo Province this weekend. ZVA secretary-general Ringisai Mapondera yesterday told Southern Eye Sport the reasons for conducting the tours was to access activities on the ground.

“The ZVA will be travelling around the country on familiarisation tours of provincial volleyball associations. We will be visiting one provincial association each month. We are starting with Masvingo on Saturday (tomorrow).

“The main reason why we want to do this is we want to see what provinces are doing.

“We also want the chance to meet other provincial associations’ members because we only meet the chairman in ZVA meetings. We also want to see and hear what is happening from other members other than just reading reports from the chairpersons,” he said.

The tour will continue on Sunday with the ZVA executive visiting to see the Great Zimbabwe Talent Identification Centres in Masvingo.

“On Sunday we will go to three Great Zimbabwe Talent Identification Centres in Masvingo. We want to check on the progress that they have made in the programme so far,” he said.

The aim of the programme is mainly developmental, with the main focus being on the development stages of volleyball for children from 8-10 years with the children who show potential being monitored and sent to training camps during school holidays.

ZVA has previously indicated that the Federation of International Volleyball can revoke its support of the programme if they realise that it is not being fully implemented. They have urged provinces to take the programme very seriously as it can be the platform to tap players who can play in the national teams in future.
