The gold miners did themselves good last Saturday banging in five goals against St Michel’s one at Barbourfields Stadium (BF), as the islanders looked set to overturn that scoreline back at home.

By half-time, St Michel were leading 3-0 and only needed another goal to register a 4-0 and cruise through to the second round, but Kuda Musharu weighed in with a goal in the second-half to make it 3-1.

St Michel scored through Jocelyn Fenosoa as early as six minutes into the match before he made it two 10 minutes later.

Two minutes before the half time whistle Alex Nibourette made it 3-0 putting How Mine in a desperate situation going to the breather.

A sigh of relief came in the 57th minute when Musharu pulled one back for How Mine.

How Mine are now through to the second round on a 6-4 goal aggregate. Musharu leads the scorers’ chart with six goals. The former Monomotapa striker has scored on each of the four games they have played in the tournament so far, notching a brace when they beat Chuoni FC of Zanzibar 4-0 in the preliminary round first leg at BF last month.

He found the net once in the 2-1 win in Zanzibar and grabbed another brace against St Michel in the 5-1 win in the first round first leg at BF.

Yesterday, he also registered his name on the score sheet.

A difficult clash lies ahead for How Mine head coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube as he would face either FC Konzo of Congo Brazzaville or Bayelsa United of Nigeria, who also played yesterday in Nigeria after registering a goalless draw in Congo on February 28 in the first leg of the first round.
