The week’s excitement, however, kicks off with the Dendairy Inter-schools 7s tournament today with matches being played at Hartsfield Ground in Bulawayo and Prince Edward and St Johns’ College in Harare. A total of 24 schools from across the country will participate in today’s tournaments, as well as four girls’ schools playing in their own separate tournament in Bulawayo.

A further set of tournaments, at these three venues will then be played on April 9 with the Midlands being added as the fourth venue where eight teams will take part.

In a statement yesterday, Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) said the matches will be used to select national junior teams.

“These tournaments will be attended by national selectors, who look to identify talent and to confirm an Under-18 Zimbabwe squad that will train for the Africa Youth Games in April. The support of Dendairy is a welcome boost for the growth of the sport in Zimbabwe.

“The Dendairy Inter-schools 7s programme provides a fantastic fit with both Dendairy and the inter-schools rugby programme, where young energetic athletes can be exposed to the benefits of high quality nutritious products,” ZRU said.
