Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the tragedy saying it happened at around 8pm on Sunday.

“I can confirm that Mlungisi Mpofu was found hanging from a tree on Monday morning. He reportedly left home at around 8pm and they found him hanging on a tree the following day. Investigations are still underway,” Moyo said.

In a related case, a man believed to be in his early 30s was killed by a train on Sunday morning along the Harare-Bulawayo railway line.

Moyo confirmed the incident saying the body was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals for a post-mortem.

According to police, a train driver saw the now deceased standing on the railway line and hooted at him, but to no avail.

“Instead of responding and instead of going away the man reportedly sat down and the train struck him,” Moyo said.

The train driver managed to stop the train after a short distance, but they found the man already dead.

“We appeal to members of the public not to continue taking away their lives and instead find other alternative ways of solving their problems. They should approach organisations such as Msasa Project, or even approach the police for help rather than commit suicide,” Moyo said.
