Cape Town – South African aid foundation Gift of the Givers says it has raised R2m in supplies for victims of Zimbabwe’s recent floods.

According to the organisation there has been an outpouring of support for those affected by the floods in Zimbabwe.

In addition the Zimbabwean government has been working co-operatively with the aid group to ensure the delivery of supplies is on time says Imtiaz Sooliman the head of the organisation.

The aim is to travel to the Masvingo region where most of the families affected by the floods are currently camping out.

The distribution of supplies will be done by the Gift of the Givers team.

Reports from Zimbabwe indicate that scores of families continue to arrive at transit camps and as a result the food reserves are dwindling and will soon be depleted.

Gift of the Givers will be providing blankets, food, mattresses, new clothing, towels, water buckets, personal and environmental hygiene packs and intravenous fluids.

The organisation is still trying to procure plastic sheeting, water purification tablets, tents, mosquito nets and sanitation items due to the lack of toilets.
