How Mine, the country’s remaining representatives in the continental competitions after Dynamos were ousted by AS Vita of DRC in the Caf Champions League, play the first leg of the second round against Bayelsa United, who are not new to the Confederation Cup, away in Nigeria at the weekend.

Head coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube yesterday said they would regroup today after the close shave qualification to the second round, losing 1-3 to St Michel United FC in the Seychelles, but winning 6-4 on goal aggregate after a comfortable 5-1 win in the first leg at Barbourfields Stadium.

“We played a goalless draw with Mushowani at Luveve yesterday (Saturday), where I mixed a number of players, but we regroup at Luveve Stadium tomorrow (today) afternoon,” Ncube said.

Bayelsa United lost in the semi-final of the Confederation Cup in 2009 to ES Sétif of Algeria after a 1-1 draw in the first leg and losing 1-0 in the second.

They won the Nigerian Premier League in the same year, but lost in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League in 2010, losing to Gazelle FC of Chad 1-0 in the first leg before playing a 2-2 draw in the second.

Bayelsa were saddled with financial problems that saw them being relegated from the Nigerian top-flight league only to return in 2012.

Ncube yesterday said he knew that Bayelsa have only played one or two matches in that country’s premier league this season.
