He also urged members of the public not to rush to the media or residents’ associations with their problems before engaging the hospital.

Mantiziba was responding to the Bulawayo Progressive Residents’ Association appeal to the Health and Child Care ministry and the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health to stop Mpilo from attaching residents’ properties over outstanding hospital fees.

“Debt collectors are there. We have debt collectors on the ground just like all central hospitals in the country from the United Bulawayo Hospitals, Parirenyatwa Hospital, Chitungwiza Hospital and even general hospitals,” he said.

“What I am saying to the community is that if anyone has problems with debt collectors, be it communication or anything, they should come to my office. They should look for me and say what their problems are. They should approach us for a payment plan and not rush to the media or residents’ associations.

“The first port of call should be the CEO’s office. I have always been available. If I am not there, they should approach the director of finance or the public relations officer and say what their problem is and then discuss a payment plan. If all that fails then they can go to the residents’ associations.”
