The surgery was delayed after the mother struggled to raise $13 000 cash upfront that was being demanded at Avenues Clinic. Senzelwe Moyo of Phakama high-density suburb, Lesego’s mother, confirmed his son’s death on Friday morning.

“He was due for an operation on Friday, but his condition had worsened the previous night leading to his death at around 5am,” the grieving mom said. “I want to thank all those who have supported me in every way from the time my son fell sick until his death.”

Lesego was earlier this year diagnosed with a brain tumor and had been in and out of Parirenyatwa Hospital as his mother ran around to raise the required fees. A fortnight ago Lesego’s mother made a desperate plea for help as his son’s condition worsened.

She said they had managed to raise $10 000 when Lesego died on Friday morning before he could be transferred to the Avenues Clinic for surgery. He will be buried in Tshoboyi today.
