Despite the limited resources at their disposal, Ajax have refused to throw in the towel on their trip to Congo next month.

The club needs over $3 000 excluding transport and accommodation costs during their campaign, $800 affiliation fees, $600 for two sets of uniforms, two sets of track suits that cost $800 per set and 10 handballs.

The club, based at Lukhanyiso Primary School in Mpopoma, was formed in November last year.

Bulawayo Handball Association chairperson Alfred Mugwagwa said he was not pleased by the facility that the team is using in their preparations although there is a lot of commitment by the girls.

“They are preparing and there is a lot of commitment. The facility is not good and they are in need of equipment,” Mugwagwa said.

They also need to play friendly matches before leaving for Congo, but they cannot travel because they do not have funds. We are appealing to the corporate world and the ministry of Sport to help the club.”

Danamombe, who beat Ajax in the national handball finals, will be representing the county in the same competition.

The two clubs did well in regional clubs handball tournament that was played at Northlea High School on Saturday with Danamombe coming first and Ajax second.
