CAPS United posted their first 2014 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League victory condemning Harare City to a second straight defeat at Rufaro yesterday.

Moses Muchenje and Dominic Chungwa strikes in either half helped United recover from last weekend’s one-all draw with ZPC Kariba. William Manondo scored on the stroke of half-time but his goal counted for nothing as City failed to make up for their 3-0 loss to Chicken Inn the previous weekend.
Employing Tendai Samanja and substitute Dominic Mukandi as defensive linkmen in the second half, Caps United coach Taurai Mangwiro managed to keep City away from his goal to narrowly win.
“It was tougher for us, but I am happy to have collected three points and this is what we needed as a team,” Mangwiro said.
“When we came from halftime we resorted to a double defensive formation and we took the game to them. We could not have asked for me. The whole idea was to atone for the dropping of points last week and we are right on track. We do not want to be under pressure from the initial stages.”
For Bigboy Mawiwi’s City who in pre-season were title favourites, due to last season’s persistence, the fight is still on after two consecutive losses.

“We were in control of this game until we conceded the first goal,” Mawiwi said.
“But we came back and in the second half we were in control again, but we missed a lot of scoring opportunities. Football is about chances. Be we are going to come good although there are no easy games this year. We will find our feet.”
Harare City striker William Manondo shot just wide with four minutes into the match as City threatened to go on a rampage.
United responded in the 30th minute with Ronald Pfumbidzai’s shot parried wide by Maxwell Nyamupanedengu before the City goalkeeper again punched aside Gerald Phiri’s volley a minute later.
