Eric Chipeta converted from the spot in the 44th minute to give the coal miners maximum points remaining unbeaten after five starts.

There was commotion before the penalty was taken as the army side’s players were protesting against Hardly Ndazi’s decision to give Hwange the spot-kick. Beaven Chikaka was given his marching orders shortly after Chipeta scored from the spot.

Black Rhinos then made two tactical changes in the second half and introduced Brian Muzondiwa and Milton Kureva for Lincoln Sarawaya and Wilson Chakanyuka respectively, but they still failed to get the equaliser. At the other end, Hwange failed to utilise their one-man advantage to increase the goal tally. Black Rhinos coach Arthur Tutani congratulated Hwange for the victory.

“Congratulations to Hwange. They have won a tough match.”

Hwange goalkeepers’ coach Chenjerai Dube was pleased with the result.

“Rhinos came to frustrate us, but at the end of the day we won the match. We missed a lot of chances regardless of the red card,” Dub said.
