Cool Crooner’s manager Mish Nyakudarika told Southern Eye the single would be part of an album that would be released in August to celebrate the Bulawayo group’s long journey in the music industry.

“Cool Crooners is the only existing group from the ’60s. This is a renewal project celebrating the groups’ longevity and a successful career. The single is part of an album set to be released in August,” he said.

The single is being recorded at a local studio under the guidance of DJ Dash Zimbabwe.

Cool Crooners will later on this year be acknowledged together with other legendary artistes for their contribution towards Bulawayo’s music heritage.

Nyakudarika who is the secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Music Association, said the Cool Crooners will be honoured together with Dorothy Masuku, Busi Ncube, Themba Ndlovu and Black Umfolosi as cultural tourism ambassadors at an event that will be held on May 23.

“As Bulawayo celebrates 120 years of existence the Zimbabwe Music Association will appoint Cool Crooners among other veteran artistes as cultural tourism ambassadors in recognition of their contribution to Bulawayo music heritage,” he said.

“As cultural tourism ambassadors the groups will collaborate on an album that will promote Bulawayo as the hub of culture.

“The role of cultural tourism ambassadors will be to go around schools educating students about our heritage and various competitions will be held throughout the year such as high schools imbube contests and a heritage history quiz.”

The trophies presented to winning schools and individuals will bear the names of the cultural tourism ambassadors.

“This is the first step at honouring legendary artistes although other stakeholders such as State institutions must play their part by honouring the artistes for their contributions with honorary degrees and diplomatic passports, among other things,” Nyakudarika said.

The project is likely to appease artistes such as Black Umfolosi who earlier this year complained that the government had failed to honour them despite their sterling contribution to the arts sector.

Black Umfolosi is one of the most travelled cultural groups in the history of Zimbabwe.
