Bruce Paguti and Trevor Sibanda are expected to fly the country’s flag high in the international competition.

ZVA secretary-general Ringisai Mapondera confirmed the trip to Southern Eye Sport yesterday.

“Zimbabwe took part in the zonal stage in Mozambique last month. We qualified for the continental stage, but only a few countries confirmed participation. We got automatic qualification. We were supposed to play on April 25,” he said.

Volleyball is one of the sports that has been hit hard by lack of funds.

Last month the Zimbabwe beach volleyball teams failed to travel to Ghana for the Youth Olympic qualifiers that were pencilled for April 10 due to financial constraints.

Mapondera said they had approached the government seeking funds to send the team but were unable to do so as the Sport, Arts and Culture ministry indicated that they did not have any finances to assist the teams.

Meanwhile, Mapondera said they were hoping  to send the Under 21 boys’ team for the continental showcase to be hosted by Mozambique on May 15.
