The man (name withheld) was on Monday brought before Chiredzi magistrate Tayengwa Chibanda on two charges of raping his daughter (14) and step-daughter (12).

The State led by Gladmore Gwara alleged that sometime in April this year the man raped his step daughter in a sorghum field.

He threatened her with death if ever she revealed the ordeal to anyone.

On April 22, the man came back home drunk and sneaked into a hut where his daughter was sleeping and raped her once.

He immediately fell into a deep sleep and was only awakened by his wife the following morning.

The wife had left him in the custody of the children when she was away on a visit.

He was found undressed clutching the rape victim in his hands and in a compromising position that showed he had been in an sexual act with the minor.

The man threatened his wife with death if ever she reported the matter to the police.

The wife reported the matter at a police base at Chingwizi transit camp, leading to the man’s arrest.

He was remanded in custody to May 12 2014.

The State refused him bail saying accused might harm his wife and two daughters, who are still living at the same place.

The three had no alternative accommodation.
