According to a TM Hyper employee Modi Mbanje, a woman had entered the pay toilet carrying a bag which she left in one of the rest rooms.

When another woman went into the toilet, she saw the bag and noticed some movement resulting in her raising the alarm.

TM Hyper employees inspected the bag and discovered the new-born baby boy wrapped in a towel.

“There is a woman who paid R2 to use the facilities and left the baby in the toilet.

“This came to our attention when another woman went in and saw a bag with some movement and came out running shouting that there was a moving bag,” said Mbanje.

“I and my colleagues went to investigate and that is when we realised that it was a baby in the bag.”

Mbanje said the woman who dumped the baby just got into the toilet and washed her hands, according to another woman.

“We suspect that the baby was delivered at home as the umbilical cord was tied and clipped by a wooden peg,” said Mbanje.

The baby was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo said he could not comment as he was not in the office.
