E-ticketing is a system for online ticket sales where a user can book and order tickets for an event, pay them online, print at home and go directly to the event. There is no need to wait in queues to get tickets just before an event.

The system communicates with the terminals at location and can check validity of each ticket in real time. The system is based on bar codes.

PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele said two companies will take part in the trial run.

Caps United will play Shabanie Mine at the National Sports Stadium, Harare City take on Bantu Rovers at Rufaro Stadium while ZPC Kariba have a date with Chapungu at Gwanzura Stadium. FC Platinum will be at Mandava against Black Rhinos.

“We are starting a trial run of the e-ticketing system at the weekend in Harare and Zvishavane. We have identified two companies that will do the trial run. The two companies that were identified from the tender that we flighted will do the demonstration,” he said.

“We cannot mention the names of the companies yet because there are 20 companies that tendered. At the moment we are starting with two after which we will pick another two until we get to the final stage.”

Ndebele said for a start the e-ticketing would be done outside the stadium.

“We want to make it easy for fans to get into the stadium. The e-ticketing system is faster and secure. We only chose the two places (Harare and Zvishavane) for the trial run. We want to change from manual to digital,” he said.

The system is meant to make sure the manual process which includes verifying the ticket is correct for the event, that the ticket is genuine and has not been used yet.
